Hi!
The Basics
So much has happened in my life and I feel a bit ridiculous talking about it, but since you're here, you obviously want to know something, so here it goes. I am from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and fell in love with country music at a very young age. My dad taught me how to play the guitar and I practiced non stop to John Denver and Lacy J. Dalton and Hank Williams, Jr. Those songs seemed easier for me to play and I grew to love and appreciate the music from there. I played and sang some in church and school functions, but didn't really take music seriously until high school. I graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and had a choice to make. I was pretty sure I could get a job at the local tv station where I was interning, or I could move to Nashville and become a star. I moved to Nashville. It didn't take long until reality set in and I was working a real 9 - 5 job and not concentrating on music at all. But the job I had was a really cool job which eventually landed me in southern California with an even cooler job working in Public Relations for Toyota Motor Corporation. In the three years I worked at Toyota, I barely remember picking up my guitar. And then one day, for some reason I went to the movies alone to see "Pure Country" starring my man, George Strait. In the middle of the movie, it hit me 'what am I doing here? I want to be doing that!' So, I quit my job and moved back to Nashville. One of my best friends from my home town was moving to Nashville to write some songs for the summer and I had enough money saved to spend the summer hanging out and figuring out the music scene myself. Fortunately, one of the first people we met was Rivers Rutherford who had just moved to town from Memphis. If you don't know anything about Rivers, google him. He's big time now. But keep reading about me, first. We spent the summer writing songs and hanging out and just Iiving life. I honestly didn't know people wrote songs for a living. I never in my life really thought about it. But I learned about the creative process of crafting a song from Rivers and figured out that I’m able to express emotions and depict different stages of my life through songs. And it’s such a great thrill when someone tells me that one of my songs moved him/her in some way.
